This is a major scheme proposed for the historic town of Shrewsbury to help reduce traffic congestion within the town centre. The road would complete the North West section of the existing ring road relieving pressure on approach roads into Shrewsbury.
Given the sensitive nature of the environment in the area, high quality landscape, including the scenic River Severn and a wealth of archaeology and biodiversity, this project has been challenging and controversial and Moore Environment has been involved from the early stages. The Company’s role as environmental coordinator and landscape architect has included:
- Environmental Impact Assessment of potential route options and advice on the selection of a Preferred Route.
- 3 public exhibition and consultation processes including the design and analysis of the first two
- Development of an accessibility strategy for vulnerable users, environmental master plan and main-scheme business case for DfT
- Production of Employers Requirements for ECI contract.
The scheme has recently been put on hold pending the Government’s spending review.
